Panama Flats - January 2nd, 2011
This is a sunset, as seen from my front porch. I find this photo to be visualy appealing for many reasons. The image is out of focus, giving the viewers' eyes a chance to focus on the colour contrast. The warm hues provide an atmosphere and mood to the picture. This image also uses layers of colour to define each section of the landscape. There are blue tones tones around the sun's reflection in the water and at the top of the image wherethe sky is still clear, black tones where the hills create the horizon, and warm yellow and orange tones where the sun sets over the hills. I think that the focus gives it more of an impact and visual interest.

1. To me, contrast and colour are the most appealing attributes of a photo. Simplistic images have the most impact, and texture gives the image depth and intrest. I am also drawn to macro photos because of the intricate detail you can achive through being so close to the subject.

2. My perspective is most often influenced by my emotions. I find myself using photography to express feeling that I keep to myself; sometimes it's happiness, other times it's pain. I love nature, and my garden has brought me countless oppertunities to shoot beautiful images. Showcasing an object's natural beauty and simplicity is my main goal when I pick up my camera.

3. There is one photo in particular that I took this past summer that is always in my mind. When exploring a town in Mexico, I stumbled upon a stall with handcrafted dolls. The vivid blues, oranges, reds, and purples provide contrast, the blurred background gives a depth of field, and the yarn (used to make the dolls) provides rich texture. The two dolls are off-set, following the rule of thirds, and the image captures the innocence of the figurines.

3. From Photography 11, I hope to gain experience in using film, and improve the composition of my photos. I'm looking forward to learning new techniques, and practicing ones that I currently use. The dark room process is definitely something that I'm excited to experience, and hopefully I will be able to put the skills we learn to good use, and produce quality images that I will be proud to share. Although I don't usually manipulate my photos through applications such as Photoshop, I'm open to learning and exploring new techniques.
